When I got my first sulcata ( around 13" at the time)she went through a huge growth spurt.
I thought she would burst if the dark area of new growth got any wider!
It maxed out at around 3" wide, her growth spurt over she's slowed down a lot now.
The new growth is completely smooth and most has now turned light brown.
She was pyramided when I got her and showed no new growth marks. Then she just took off and grew and grew! Had me quite worried.
I think as EJ said environment, temperature and diet all play a role.
Mine had been housed indoors all her life. But is housed outdoors now and has been since the day we got her.
Another sulcata ( a smaller one) went through and is still going through the exact same thing.
Pyramided and housed indoors before we got her. She took off from day one of living here outdoors. A huge growth spurt, but all new growth is smooth.
My baby sulcata though, is growing very slowly and smoothly, he/she's been housed outdoors all her little life.
So I think that changes in conditions/environment/diet etc can drasticly effect the growth .
Maybe even simple changes, such as the addition of a new food to the diet, more time outdoors etc.
Terry.
