I just thought it a possibility as you mentioned the odor, and hexamita can cause a rather nasty odor from the vent.
But it might not be the case, maybe infection from an injury or shell rot was the cause .
Hexamita can be treated with metronidazole.
Any tortoise you susspect of having Hexamita should be isolated, and strict quarantine measures
put into place.
Ie: That tortoise should be fed and handled last.
Any water or food bowls it uses should not be given to the other torts.
And hands must be scrubbed after any contanct with the tort. Infact surgical gloves are recommended.
Hexamita is extremely contagious.
But it very well might not have been Hexamita, it was just the odor (possibly coming from the vent), that made me think of it.
I don't want to worry you for no reason!!
Just thought it was worth a mention.
