Sorry to hear that it passed on.
It was probably way too late to save it then anyway.

Could it have been Hexamita parva, I'm wondering because of the smell? Hexamita can produce a very strong odor.
I would make sure that everything is disinfected just incase.
I'm sure you took precautions as you are experienced with torts/turts.

Poor thing, it's a shame the previous owners waited so long before seeking any care for it.

I know what you mean about people leaving creatures on your doorstep, if they know you keep them.

I've had turtles and tortoises handed over to me, but never dumped on the doorstep.

I rehab birds though, and have opened the door plenty of times to find a bird in a box or just left on the front door step.

Anyway, once again sorry to hear that it was too late for the poor tortoise.
