You cannot take them out of the wild but you can adopt ones that have been sick or injured or taken by people who didn't know better.(no you cannot just take one and say oops) I got this info from a guy who represented www.parcplace.org so you might want to contact them.
But it is important to know IT IS ILLEGAL TO TAKE THEM OUT OF THE WILD! (not to get on your case but just so you don't get a big fine from fish and game) Apparently you can adopt certain ones that have been sick or removed because if they are not returned to the right place or they contract a disease while in captivity it could be a disaster for the wild population (which is already in trouble.)
