: Hi.
: I have 4 sulcatas. The 3 largest ones, all over 8"
: have the run of the entire back yard.
: The baby has a 12' - 6' outdoor enclosure.
: Enclosures are quite easy and quite cheap to build.
: You can use fencing boards.
: For a 20'-10' enclosure you only need 18 or 24 fencing boards.
: For the long sides use 6- 10' long boards for each side.
: 3 boards on top of each other, then 3 more next to those to create a wall 20" long.
: For the end walls you can use 3- 10' boards or 6-5' boards etc.
: You will need some wooden stakes to nail the boards to,hammer the stakes into the ground then nail the boards to them. You can also nail the boards together at the corners, and that's it.A 20' -10' enclosure for around $200.
: Another good idea is to sink the bottom boards in the ground a few inches. It will make the walls more secure, add help prevent dig outs.
: An enclosure that size isn't big enough for an adult sulcata though. And is barely big enough for a 9" one.
: But use your imagination and a few more boards to make an even larger enclosure.
: If you can make your yard escape proof. And safe from dogs (if you have any), then I recommend letting the sulcata roam the entire yard.
: Mine have been doing just that for 3 years now, with no escapes or other problems.
: But, make sure the yard is escape proof, free of pestisides and fertilizers. And free from toxic plants or anything the tortoise could injure it self on.
: Here are some enclosure photos, linked below, for more ideas.
: Terry.
Thank you for all ya'lls help!
