Mushrooms in my yard

I recently moved to a new house with a nice big yard for my sulcata, hingeback and redfoot to wander about. Summer is finally here and I'm excited to get them set up outside, but I've noticed that a whole lot of mushrooms have been popping up all over the place. I asked at a greenhouse how to get rid of them and they said the best thing to do is just kill them as soon as they come up and hopefully in a few years I won't have so many. What I'm wondering is if these are really bad for my tortoises? I really don't know what the scientific name for these mushrooms are, but I'm in the Hudson valley in New York and they are light brown, soft and mooshy. Does anybody know about the mushrooms around here and if they might be bad for my guys? I'm afraid to leave them out there unsupervised now, since I don't want them to eat them until I learn more. Thanks for any help.
