Could possibly be retaining heat if you have a large lamp on it. Odd though, sounds like very dry conditions...which is important for these types. My oldest gets sluggish in the humidty and will sleep away that part of the day and then will graze late in the afternoon.

Most people aren't big on sand in the enclosure, I don't use it myself when I enclose my tortoise. When I put my young Africans in at night, one spends the night in a sweater box with carefresh.

:I am concerned about it's growth rate. It eats good, what ever I dish out for my iguanas, Bearded dragon, desert iguana, chuckwallas, and spiny tailed iguanas.

Hmmmmmmm, and just what would that LEEZARD food be? I'm just interested because I keep lizards as well and I feed them a different diet then my chelonians.
