GREAT!!!! We're heading out for 20 min of sunshine. Thanks a lot!!!: I live in NYC and am experiencing the same dreariness of weather. My 4 year old sulcata babies really want to play on their balcony, so I do what I do during the cold months in Virginia when they visit Grandma and Grandpa. I take their basking lamp and a pig blanket (large plastic heat pad that plugs in) and place them on the blanket with their basking light shining on them. This creates a circle area of warmth and makes it easier for them to brave the cold temperature. If I want to make sure they stay on the heat pad under the circle of light (sounds like an Elton John song) then I feed them in a strategic way so that they stay put. This way they can gather both warmth and sunshine. If the sun is at its highest, then their shells will absorb a nice amount of heat and warm them up also, often without even the help of the lamps. Direct sunlight is very very important. It changed the course of Angel's life when she got more access to direct sun. . . Good luck and happy grazing to your torts!
