Let me just say, if I had to rely on local "authorities" to gain my own knowledge about tortoises, I'd probably still be using a heat rock and feeding my sulcata hard boiled eggs! Many of us (I'm sure you included) have utilized the Internet to gain knowledge, in addition to the other resources available to you.
As far as your term, "experienced tortoise keeper"...what in your opinion makes a keeper an "experienced" keeper? Just curious, I feel like I am always learning but would still, 6 years later, consider myself at least somewhat experienced. Likewise for Terry, who has kept sulcata, russians, leopards, galbys, box turtles, and red-foots and has been keeping almost as long as I have. I would also consider her experienced as well.
As far as her location on Hawaii..well, sometimes you can't choose where you live, and I happen to personally feel that Terry probably is more inconvenienced by living so far from the mainland than she is happy to be there.
I personally disagree with you on withholding water from tortoises in captivity. In fact, ANDY HIGHFIELD, one of your authorities, recommends offering standing water for captive-kept torts, including the sulcata.
I'm not sure why you are jumping all over Terry, but when you really think about it...we all have more to learn....
