Hi Karl,
It would probably be best to get that advice from TCC, as I have no experience with those plants.
What I would recommend you do for shade is plant a few different variations of Hibiscus,some fig, and Mulberry. Plant them in a straight line, with a path down the middle. Separate them about a foot and a half ( down the center) so that the upper leaves almost touch the other plants.
See if you can find some stubby hibiscus with broad leaves. This way when the pants drop leaf or sprout flowers you will have the availibility of having it ready to drop down to the tort, or manipulated by you.
Hope that helps, also a nice box in an area that doesn't get the later day sun works good too.
Planting like this makes them move around more, and feel safe.
