Keep in mind rabbit pellets can be very dusty which can get on the food or in the water . Your
beardie is better off in a more natural set-up
. Use calcisand or other sand made for herp set-ups
. What is the temp in your beardies cage . and his food ? This can have an efect on health as well ..
Also the pellet dust can get into thier noses as well which is another thing to think of .

: I just got a new bag of rabbit pellets for a new pair of Russians I'm getting today. :-) I checked out the label...and the label read like a science experiment. The company prides itself on having something called Lactobacillus Acidophilus. I don't know if it's bad for the torts....but I've decided to not take a chance. For now I will use newspaper with a layer of orchard hay on it and might try the bed-a-beast stuff until I get safe escape proof outdoor enclosure completed.
: I also have a bearded dragon. I've had him for years and lately, although he's not been sick, he's not been thriving. Vet can't find any reason for it...and now this makes me wonder if medicated rabbit pellets in his enclosure MIGHT have something to do with it....?
: Any ideas what the antibotic in the pellets might do to a tort (or beardie)?

: : Thing is Pamela that not all feed companies do that. I know one that is a well known company but will not mention it here as this can not only cause me legal probs ( poss slander suit ) but also cause Jeff B probs as well .

: : I feel the best substrat for torts from desert or near desert condetions is sand or a sand bed-a - beast mix ( which would look like sandy type soil ) .
: : Hope this helps a little more ,

: : : Thanks for this info, I've been keeping my Russians on rabbit pellets. I moved them to another substrate since reading about the additives....

: : : :
: : : : some feed companies do put aditives such as antibiotics in the pellets . I know about this as I use to raise show rabbits . Alot of rabbit breeders would complain about this as they used some of thier rabbits for freash meat .
