Ed, thank you very much for your credible and useful
advice. I'll start keeping her nest box moist again, and
hope for another clutch. It has been over 100 degrees here
every day for last week, so it's hard to keep sand wet.

: There are reports that sperm can be retained for 5 - 7 years in tortoises. Normally when a tortoise is 'settled in' and is comfortable as if they were in the wild it will lay eggs every 28 or so days with 2 or 3 clutches being normal and the range being 1 to 7 clutches throughout the egg laying season. The best thing you can do though is expect the one clutch with anything after that being gravy. One thing you need to note is the behavior when she does nest so you know what to look for in the future. This behavior remains rather consistant.

: : I put the male with the female for a few days in the Fall. Then I put
: : the female back in her enclosure, where she hibernates, comes out
: : in late february and lays a clutch of 5 eggs on may 22.
: : Is it possible she'll lay again this season? If so, is it
: : based on last Fall's mating or does she need to mate again now to
: : produce the second clutch? How often do testudo graeca have
: : more than one clutch per year? please avise
