For what its worth-
Ed mentioned a theory on burrowing and the humidity possibly playing a role in pyramiding. I baulked at the time but now that I think about this- it does make sense.

: Read the site for a little whil and find the big article on sulcatas AND leopards burrowing.
: They burrow so that they can hydrate themselves. The dig the deep burrow, the burrow is very humid, and then the tortoise sits in it for awhile to soak up some of the moisture.
