the tropical, aquatic, near aquatic species of reptiles carry/shed more of the salmonella bacteria then the arid species do. Also it has been found that the conditions that some reptiles are kept promotes more of the bacteria. I have had some reptile keepers that "flushed" their reptiles to be salmonella free (as some aquatic turtle breeders claim) but was told that it could come up again down the road with captive conditions. If any body knows more of this situation it would be appreciated if it could be posted.

: Any reptile can carry salmonella including Hermans. But your chances of getting salmonella poisoning are greater from grocery store chicken. Anyone who handles reptiles should be in the habit of washing their hands after handling them. In my opinion if you do this you have nothing to worry about. I hope this helps.
