Hello. I am looking into letting my Russians bed down for the winter later this year. They are kept in a large tub indoors (I get them out in the summer when I can)and up until now, have been kept on newspaper while being treated for pinworms. They have come back clean now after a couple of fecals. I am looking for suggestions on a bedding material that is safe, will allow them to burrow, but won't become incredibly heavy when I put in enough for decent burrowing. I was gonna do a sand/dry peat mix but I thought of the weight and the sheer agony of cleaning it all out when I want to do a total cleanup. Any ideas?
ALso, if I use a non-sand type bedding and set up a sandy egg laying site next spring, what are the chances that the torts will
still try to lay eggs in their regular substrate? What can I do to make the laying box especially irresistable? Thanks for all help.
