I made my enclosure (8'x8') out of boards sunk 6"
into the ground.
They never try to dig out, but I'm in Missouri and the soil is a very tough clay. I also put a pile of sand/topsoil in the middle upon which I placed their wooden hidebox. They crawl into the hidebox at night and dig into the sand/soil pile.
I also put a hinged lid made of wood and chicken wire over the enclosure and used a chain and lock to secure it. This is to deter casual theft and birds, cats, dogs, raccoons, etc.
