You might also consider a Hermann's tortoise. They also do not get too, big, and I think that they are a little more adaptable as far as humidity goes (less sensitive to higher humidity than Russians) It is also, at this point, easier to get captive bred Hermann's. I'm including a link to some info on these torts. Additionally, you can look into Greek tortoises, which would also be a good consideration.
