I think your sister wasn't trying to do any harm,
poor thing was trying to help. It's still awful
for you. Little kids can easily harm or kill small
reptiles in many different ways unintentionally.
What ticks me more though is bigger kids doing
things on purpose.
One afternoon we were sitting on our front porch
watching Teddy walk around grazing. Well he walked
out of my sight around the driveway which is OK,
cause he'll go to the backyard sometimes that way
and I'll check him in a second. But at that very
minute 3 boys came running over from my neighbors
yard that were going door to door offering to
sweep driveways for $1.00 and I heard them talking
to each other and decided to jump up and run over
there, and got there just as they ran up on Teddy
with their stupid broom handles toward him, and
I yelled "Watch the sticks!!" as I grabbed him.
He sat on my lap as my husband and I told them
we didn't need our driveway swept thanks, good bye.
Well, I'm just glad I hopped up when I did, I don't
know for sure what they would have done.
An even worse story was even in the paper here, a
lady said she and her 3 little kids were at a lake
when someone caught a turtle so they wanted to
go over and see it. But the person who caught
it gave it to another fisherman and he promptly
cut the turtles head off with a knife!! Of course
the kids were screaming hysterically and crying, the
fisherman said "that's what fishermen do with
turtles". (Apprently some do this especially with
snapping turtles fearing that they eat too many
fish or some other nonsense.) I know that if I'd
have seen that I'd have had a screaming fit there
too!!!
Again, I'm really sorry for you, I can imagine
how sad you must be. At least you can take
comfort in the fact it was an accident. niki
