I have seen vets cover a wound with a special bandage that is customized for shells. Meanwhile, wash the wounds in a soak, even with a LITTLE bit of suds from anti-bacterial soap, dry it well, and then put on some Neosporin or Bacitracin or any triple-antibiotic ointment you may have. Then cover the wound with a band-aide. I was able to do this before I took Angel to the vet for her shell scrapes, but of course, she was a much bigger, tougher and stronger tortoise by the time she received that wound at the hand of her amorous friend Chanel! The band-aide and neosporin ointment will help to prevent infections in the meantime, but a vet will be able to help the tortoise much better the sooner you get to one.
And please let us know what happens and what the vet says, by now hopefully you have already seen one. How long was the tortoise with the dog unattended again? Best of luck to you and your baby; I hope everything works out alright. Please keep us posted, everyone is hoping for the best.
