The active UV heat bulb uv does drop off rapidly but it is still about 15 to 20 times more effictive than a brand new tube type bulb that is brand new. That's after about a year.
: : Terry thanks for the quick reply.
: : I have another baby and he does not have this problem. This is what most concerned me. I am using the repti sun uvb bulb and will keep
: : track of his progress. do you think the soft shell warrents a trip to the vet? or should I just keep him in optimum conditions and see how it goes?

: Athena, I hope you don't mind me adding this. I don't know if you knew this but most of the full spectrum tubes only give off optimum UVB for about 90 days. After that the amount of UVB lessens rapidly. The manufacturers don't tell you that. So this is something you might want to look into about the tube your using. I hope this is of some help.
: God Bless,
: Tim
