: Ta to everyone who replied to my problem.
: I only got the tort in Feb of last year so I have never tried to hibernate him.I went to our local Petsmart and got a book about torts and asked some advise as well while I was there. The assistant told me that she had a lep tort and hibernated him every year and the book did not say anything about keeping them awake so I'm VERY glad that everyone told me.It just shows that it's the people who look after these animals that really know the score. In the future,I will ask on the forum instead of looking in books.
: Cheers again. Mark
Mark don't write off books completely. I don't know what book you have but if it was specifically written on leopard tortoises I'm sure it told you what temperature to keep the tortoise at year round. At that temperature it would not be able to brumate (reptiles do not hibernate)even if it wanted to. There is a wealth of knowledge to be gained from books and from places like this forum. You need as much knowledge as you can collect to properly keep Tortoises and the more you have the easier it is to seperate the good from the bad advice. God bless,
Tim
