First, yes - I live in Garland. Don't know how old Hank is. The story is - I had a box turtle who disappeared last year. Hibernating duh! I hadn't seen him in 6 months so assumed the worst. A couple of weeks ago, dumb impulsive me went to the pet store where I used to go for my cats, who I no longer have, and saw this Russian that had been there for quite some time. I'd seen him before and he always looked good and healthy. I decided to go ahead and get him thinking he'd be much better off with me (don't worry anyone, will NEVER do again)!! I know this was stupid to get him from the petstore, but I really quizzed them on him and the manager told me they get their russian's from a local breeder. Now, who know's if that's actually true or not? Anyway, I wanted him because he was so active and fiesty. I got home with him and not 1 hour later, I was drawn to a weird spot in my yard, where, believe it or not, I dug up my box turtle. I thought he was dead and you can imagine the stroke I almost had when he popped up out of the hole!! I have been on these forums and have heard nothing good about keeping these two species together. That is the ONLY reason I'd want to find Hank another place....he's pretty cool. I can tell you that I think it's a male, he's 4.5 inches long, and still probably very young, not a hatchling though. He tends to be very active in mid-day, when it's warmer. I really would like to find someone who has a box and would like to just trade me.......because I really want more turtles, but after all this discussion, I'll stick to one kind. I took some photos this morning that I'm posting here......bear in mind, my camera isn't great and these are scanned. Just let me know what you think?
