I have a one year old hermanni boettgeri, and she (or he) is terrific. She is my first tortoise, so I can't really compare her personality with other species, but she's quite outgoing and curious. The h. boettgeri (or eastern hermann's) are generally less expensive than the hermanni hermanni, or western subspecies. I'm including a link to the breeder from whom I acquired my hermann's. I found them to be very reputable and knowledgable (and I believe that turtles and tortoises are their primary focus). They breed both h.boettgeri and h.hermanni.
