That color variation is normal. Sulcatas usually start out light and then darken with age. As they get really big there color becomes horn. I have never heard of a hybrid sulcata. The closest relative of a sulcata is a leopard tortoise, keep that in mind. By the way you can not tell a animal is het, just by looking at it.
