: hi tcc,
: i'll try and get the vet and see what see she says about his eyes. could you recommend any pellets? i have one by kaytee and another by vitakraft, which would you say?
Hi Ann,
Just anything that smells really fruity and junky for now.
When you find out about the eyes, will you let us know?
i think the kaytee one is stronger smelling, i've put it in a dish and he just goes there and falls asleep with his head in the dish. i've tried his fav foods like cucumber and orange but he just sniffs it and that's it. he's on vit b12 to increase appetite but it doesn't seem to make any difference. yup, his weight hasn't changed at all 300g at the vets and 240g on my kitchen scales.
Well its great that his weight isnt going down (good job for keeping track! :)
Could be stress of the other meds that are preventing him from wanting to eat. Oh then there is the eyes too.
: tried backing off for 3 days, no change. i've tried giving him little bits of grape into his mouth but no change as well, and he didn't drink any water. do you think i should post msgs on that site? thanx

The Star Tortoise list is kind of slow and small (just over 100 ppl I think) but its a good group to gather collective experiences from.
Three days isn't long to go with out food if he is of good weight and hydrated. Personally, im feeling quite hopeful being that he has come this far.
Have you tried putting a piece of a soaked junky pellet in his mouth and then going far away so that he thinks he is alone?
Does he have lots of hiding places and proper heat/ thermoregulation? Do you see him moving about ever to adjust his body temp for comfort?
What about giving sub Q fluids along with the meds and that being the only handling that's done? Course you would have to get with your vet on this but it would insure minimal stress.
Good luck and keep us posted.
tcc :)
