Well, here's how I look at it.
A wild-caught animal will take longer to acclimate, will probably need more conditioning before being healthy enough to produce viable eggs (since they usually come in underweight, with parasites, and other problems), and will cost you more in vet bills. If a tortoise dies within a year of purchase due to health issues caused by collection, holding, and transporting from country of origin, then it will definately be producing less eggs than a capitve bred animal!
Now, as far as long-term (5+ years?) wild-caught captives, I have no idea.
