Some folks take this to an extreme. Don't kill yourself or worry yourself over the deal. You gotta figure if it is safe for human consumption it can't be all that bad for tortoises. I've been feeding this kind of stuff to herps for over 25 years in one form or another. Use your better judgement. Some of these things that are on some peoples 'never feed' list are just fine to feed within limits. (I don't know how carrot made that list. I feed it at every feeding) Green beens is another item that is just fine in moderation. Just remember you want variety. And yes, spinach is a no no with certain species but not all.
