Justin.
In all the pet stores I've been to over here ( Oahu) books on tortoise care are not available.
Tortoises are, but the books aren't.
Sorry to seem naive but as many others have done I counted on the pet store employees to give me care/diet info.
How on earth is somebody to know ( without prior experience) that many pet stores don't have a clue?
So I bought the sulcata before the book, for the above reasons.
I got on my PC, and started looking up info on my new tortoise. Which brought me to this forum.
Thanks to people here, I soon found out I had been given some very wrong info by the pet store.
Okay I now have the books and they are useful tools. HOWEVER they can't replace hands on info and experience from others who keep the same species.
I have learnt many things through this forum the email lists and various tortoise web sites.
All the above have been just as useful as the books.
Infact as a layman ( woman) I find some things in the books difficult to understand. A quick post to the forum and it's explained in terms I can understand!!
Newbies come here looking for advise and help, just as I did. Lets not chase them away by telling them off ( if you will) for not buying the book first.
Terry.
