Seen the photos and yes some species of tortoise can swim, or have been known to swim.
Leopards apparently are one of those species, and judging by the photos, red foots too.
However.
This doesn't mean that deep bodies of water should be made available to our tortoises.
If a tortoise is in deep water and can't get out, it WILL drown.
Those photos are interesting, but if the keeper wasn't right there and the tortoise had no way to get out. Sooner or later it would become exhusted and drown.
I remember a couple of other incidents in the last year or so, where tortoises have been found in the pool.( posted to the email groups by distraught owners)
Only problem is, they were on the bottom, not swimming happily around.
