: Hi Ed,
: I think i already made it real clear about greens but found this on Annies site, so perhaps you can have her explain it better.
Yes, that is a statement on my site! BTW When published information is quoted from a site, the source of that information must also be listed in the post. In this case, the posted information came from http://turtlestuff.com
The key words in this pasted statement are CAN, SOME, and OFTEN. I do not consider things like dandelion, etc. now available in many stores to be substandard, and as I already posted previously, some tropical species as well as box turtles DO appreciate some fruits in the diet.
In addition, I also posted that organic items, as well as items to wash produce of potentially harmful residues are now commonplace, and even listed manufacturers, names, and URL's for these products in my previous post.

: Grocery store produce is too high in water, as well as sugars, often
: contains pesticide residue, and some store produce actually inhibits the
: absorption of calcium, a badly needed item in any tortoise's diet. It is
: also an insufficient source for vitamins, minerals, and other trace
: elements. There are no produce markets in the wild! Think of terrestrial
: tortoises as a "cow with a shell."
