: : : : Most people use Panacur (fenbendazole) as a DE-wormer. Dosage is by weight.
: : : : NEVER use Ivermectin or any livestock dewormers as they are potentially fatal.
: : : : However, you should really not be deworming a tortoise unless you are sure it HAS worms to begin with. Easy to do...take the tortoise to the vet for an exam...bring a fresh fecal sample to have it analyzed...if it comes back positive, the vet will give you deworming medicine appropriate for the type of worm(s) or eggs present. I DO NOT recommend self-diagnosing and self-medicating your tortoise outside of veterinary care and supervision...
: : The weight calculations that have to be done in order to properly dose a tortoise are best done by a vet. with tortoise experience. The shell is a large part of a tortoises weight. If you dose a tortoise for its total weight the results can be tragic. I hope this helps.

: Actually, I think you are supposed to use the total weight of a tortoise/turtle when calculating dosages since bone is living tissue and is metabolically active. While the scutes may be inert, they contribute little to the overall weight.
