The Egyptian tortoise is Testudo kleinmanni. The hermann’s tortoise is Testudo hermanni. Both are in the same genus but are different species. The Egyptian tortoise is not a subspecies of the hermann’s tortoise. The way it goes is Genus, species, subspecies. To write the scientific name correctly, the Genus is capitalized, the species and subspecies are not. The entire scientific name should be underlined or in italics. This forum will not accept an underline or italics so just imagine that that the scientific names are.
