: I justgot an african spurred tortoise and i was curious as to how long their life span is

: : : I am interested in getting a Sulcata but before i do i want to find alot of info on them. What is a good care sheet for them. Also what is the difference between a African Spurred Tortoise and an African Spurred Thigh Tortoise. How big do they get on average. Thanks for your time.
: : African spurred tortoise, is the correct common name for Geochelone sulcata.
: : It is sometimes mistakenly called African Spur thighed.
: : .But that is incorrect and can cause confusion, as there is a tortoise with the common name spur-thighed . The common name for Testudo ibera is the Greek or Turkish spur-thighed tortoise.
: : Geochelone sulcata or African spurred tortoise, is the third largest land tortoise in the world, it can reach 200lbs when fully grown. It is a very active and freindly tortoise ( I have two) that requires alot of room and access to outdoor grazing. Unless you live in a state warm enough to allow a sulcata to be housed outside year round I wouldn't recomend getting a sulcata.
: : Not only do they need to graze but they are also, very strong and active. And also produce a very large amount of stools!!
: : Below is a link to the Tortoise Trust web site, where you will find a sulcata caresheet. Also check out the links .You will find a link to the Hatchling haven web site, whereMarrissa Adam's excelent sulcata care sheet.
: : Hope this helps,
: : Terry.
