I've got a giant pine tree in the middle of Teddy's
pen (we're moving soon though so can start totally
over!), but it's not been a problem, he doesn't
eat the pine needles. Fir is not toxic to reptiles,
and pine is not suggested as an indoor substrate
where they trapped in it practically. However there
are tons of reptiles living here in the sandhills
with tons of pine trees. It's the oils that are
toxic. Outside my sulcata is fine with it.
If you can, use cypress mulch, you might have to
buy it, but it'd be fine. That's what I'm going to
do at the new house.
