I would worry more about too much heat than too much UVB. Our great sun puts out so much UV that even the new Active UV & heat-in-one bulb cannot even begin to match it. Yet many tortoise species bask in this almost every day. If you have a sun-loving species, you should not have a problem with more, as long as there plenty of shadier, cooler places available for him/her to get away from the light when it is not wanted. Think of the new recommended usage of bulbs like the Reptisun 5.0. It is now considered practically useless if kept more than 12" from where your pet can get at it, and still must be changed every 6 months; though from what I understand,that comes more from residue buildup inside the bulb that blocks the light, than from the output capability itself.
