Shame they only have the one.
The Honolulu Zoo have has a lot of success breeding, both the Galapagos and sulcata they need to work with G. yniphora too. Not just keep a lone female.
I visited the local small Zoo a few days ago: Wildlife World Zoo in Litchfied Park, AZ.
They had a group of around 8 sulcata, but not nearly as nice as the herd at the Honolulu Zoo.
They also had one pancake tortoise in a miserable/small indoor enclosure.Only one rock crevise to hide in and a little romaine lettuce in a dish for food.
Two box turtles in a horrible little outdoor enclosure with little shade/shelter and no places for digging.
My box turtle enclosure in Hawaii was a million times better. I felt so sorry for them, both trying to hide under one small, half dead plant :(
Loads of red ear sliders in with the ducks, at least they had loads of water and plenty of basking sites.
I wonder why the Honolulu Zoo doesn't aquire a male G. yniphora, and start a breeding program.
