In Reply to: Leopards - Different sub-species? posted by Jeff on March 07, 2001 at 08:40:07:
Jeff, All leopards come from Africa. As of this date there is one species. Geochelone pardalis. In the past there was G. p. pardalis and G. p. babcocki. The G.p.pardalis is reported to come from extreme south africa. babcocki covers the remainder of the range up the east coast of Africa up to Ethiopia. What species is recognised seems to be determined by the last taxonomist who revised that group (which they are constantly doing with this particular animal.)
