CB egyptians are around $350.00 dollars. Not an inexpensive tortoise. And not for beginners. If I where you I would hold back for a few months and save some money, read as much as you can, buy all the items you will need to keep a tortoise properly indoors. Fairly soon you will see ads in the kingsnake classifeds for CB greeks, hermanni, and marginata. All Testudo sp, and all "realatively' small in comparison to Geochelone sp. As far as sharing a yard with a dog, it can't be expresed enough on how dangerous a dog is to a tortoise. You can build a secure coverd outdoor pen wiht minimal cost though!
