Hi Terry,
I am very aware how big the sulcata and the redfoot get. And I know how small and inexpensive WC russians are.

My point is that those recommending WC russians never attach the warning about diseases and parasites that many carry. I just keep seeing"get a russian"

CHeap and the fact that they are already here doesn't mean that alternate species should not be recommended first and foremost.

There are several smaller species that are readily available. Try a hermanni, graeca, or marginata. All are equally interesting and hardy.

If cheap and small are the main driving factors in a recommendation and/or a purchase, then perhaps the potential buyer should go to the pound and adopt a cat or a small dog. Or better yet, perhaps they shouldn't get a pet at all.

If a person is not willing to buy CB because they don't want to spend the extra money then they probable won't want to seek vet care if the tortoise should need it, because of the cost.

Average cost of a CB graeca is $90.00
CB hermanni is $125.00
CB marginata is $175.00
CB horsfieldi is $175.00

CB redfoot is $125.00
CB sulcatta is $90.00

If someone is asking about a redfoot then they must be willing to spend at least $125.00 so why not recommend a hermanni?????
