If your sulcata is small it is not unusual that his lower shell is soft, it stays soft for a while in hatchlings. However its upper carpace should be hard. Soft shell can mean calcium deficiency. Make sure you have the right diet(go to www.tortoise.com they have long list of things to feed your tortoise and on things not to give them). Also every day use calcium supplement and few times a week use miltivitamin supplement. Make sure you have a full spectrum UV bulb and remember that bulb usually only lasts for about 12 months. Hope it helps, Maja
Hi everyone,
: I have a sulcata hatchling that I got before Christmas. He is eating really well and growing, but I am a bit concerned. he has soft spots on his shell, you can mash on the spots and push in on his shell! They are not extremely soft but it still has me worried. I took him to the vet and he didn't know much about torts. One of the soft spots that has me worried is on the lower shell, mid section. Is this normal? Somebody please help me!
