Carmen,
Asian turtles often come straight from the food markets of Asia. The lucky ones that is, the rest end up in the soup pot.
They are wild caught and have to endure absolutely horific conditions from the time of their capture.
Often because of this they are very sick and infested with internal parasites. They are also very sressed, which weakens their imune system and allows any parasites etc to take over.
Absolutely the most important thing for any Asian species is a vet visit as soon as you get the turtle.
The more experienced the vet, the better.
But sometimes it's already too late.
I'm so sorry you lost Miss T, I know you tried your best to do everything for her.
If you decide to get another turtle or tortoise try to get a captive bred one.
Captive bred turtles usually have far less health problems.
My deepest sympathy goes out to you.

Some of the links/photos/articles at the web site are extremely disturbing, but will give you an idea of what these turtles go through.
