Sulcata growth: too fast?

Hi All,

After seeing Niki's chart (Sulcata growth) I began to worry a little about my Sulcata, Tuffy. He seems to be growing awfully fast. When I got him (from a pet store) I was told he was a little over a year old and he was already 4 pounds and pyramiding. I had a little trouble believing he was only a year old and I suspect he was being fed dog food.

Now, 2 years later he is 21 pounds. He seems healthy and his vet says he's healthy (the vet specializes in reptiles). His pyramids have stopped, but they have not flattened out (I know they may never do so). The growth is flat now, but he had some shell deformities when I got him, what looked like holes in his shell. They weren't holes exactly, it's tough to describe, maybe more like depressions? They have now have mostly filled in and the vet checked them out, Tuffy's ok.

I feed him a combination of grasses, alfalfa hay, some market greens (escarole,red/green leaf lettuce, romaine, chicory), prickly pears and the occasional ends of a zucchini (which he absolutely LOVES!). He gets repcal calcium supplements. While he loves his food, I don't over feed him.

He is indoors right now as I live on the east coast. He has a large room that's his with a reptisun uvb (vita light) a large basking area (temps ~90) and a large hide box where he always sleeps (temp ~70). He is active, although not as active as he is when the spring/summer rolls in.

So, what do you guys think? Do I have a problem or is Tuffy gearing up to be the world's largest Sulcata?

Thanks!
Herman
