My red foot recently had a problem with his substate. The guy I bought him from said that wood chips are a good substrate to use because it helps with humidity. So I went out and bought Lizard Litter Wood chips. I've been using them for about six months and had no problems. Then about a two weeks ago he wasn't eating for a couple of days so I took him to the vet right away. It turns out that he had swallowed something and was blocking a part of his intestine track. I was given medicine by the vet and was told if this doesn't work then they my have to operate. Well, it looked like it may have worked because he is eating and getting back to normal. However, I am going back to the vet for another x-ray to be sure. After deciding that the only thing that he could have swallowed was a small wood chip, I have decided to change substates.(Since you stuck through that long story here's the question) My question is what else could I use? I need something that is easy to clean, won't hurt my tortoise if swallowed, and will help with humidity. Some one recommended rabbit pellets. Will this work? Ned the Tortoise and I thank you in advance for your help.
