In Reply to: Sulcata baby not eating, will die soon I'm afraid!!!! posted by Kendoko on January 27, 2001 at 13:25:06:
Hi, I'm worried like you are, having just heard
from 2 pet shop employees that their sulcatas died,
10 gallon tanks - WHY are those sold anyways? -
they're not even suitable for fish! )
The other posts give you great advice and you should
try to make those adjustments immediately, however
your main concern is that he's not eaten anything.
Try offering him a choice of anything you can get
your hands on right now, just to get something in
him, grasses from outside, weeds from outside and
any greens you can get, collards, mustard greens,
different lettuces - endive, chickory etc...
possibly he won't eat these and may be getting
weakened from stress - new environment , poor
environment, moving, new person, etc...
If you can get to the pet shop tomorrow, go and
buy some commercial tortoise food, any brand for
now, if they don't have it get juvenile iguana food,
take it home and soak it for a few seconds in warm
water, then offer it to your tortoise. If he will
not eat that, you let me know. Put a little banana
pieces in there if you got em.
This isn't the best diet, and it's not long term,
you're just trying to get him to eat something.
Let him eat and make corrections in his set-up, then
start offering all those BEST choice foods everyone
else told you to offer. Crisis over.
For goddness sake, stop spraying the tank, get rid
of the moss, and take out those things he's climbing
on and falling over from. Put a little pile of
timothy hay in there (get it at the pet shop) and
let him burrow in that. niki & teddy
