We have a hatchling Russian tortoise that pipped 3 days ago (after 86 days of incubation at 88 degrees F, 50% humidity)and has made it most of the way out of its shell (only its rear end is still inside). It still has a rather large yolk sac attached to its plastron and the lower egg shell. I know not to attempt to remove the remaining shell, but what do we do with the hatchling while it absorbs the yolk sac ?...keep it in the incubator (warm & moist) or move it to a drier more normal habitat? Does it need to drink? Judging from the size of the yolk sac, it could be many days, maybe a week before it is fully absorbed. This hatchling was apparently in a hurry to break out; its sibling shows no sign of pipping yet.
