That is the link to the Charles Darwin Foundation if you care to check out their website on the galapagos islands. It has great information on the beautiful tortoises and their plight. They will be doing frequent updates on the effects of the oil spill.

I am waiting for them to send me my new membership material. Also, I talked to them about the Ambassador level and how great it would be if one of their
"The opportunity to join CDF staff and scientists on special, Ambassadors-only trips to the Galapagos Islands" could be focused around tortoise rescue efforts, like scouring Pinta to see if there might be another "Lonesome George," or helping with their captive breeding program. I told them there would be a lot of interest in such a program on this board! It has been a lifelong dream of mine to go to these Islands, and I am enraged that another example of stupid human bungling might harm the most precious ecosystem on earth!!! Anyhow, they are desperate for contributions of ANY kind right now, since they have to help pay for the researchers and rescue efforts that are taking place after the oil spill.

Just on a tangent -- between this, Exxon Valdez, and the recent Californian energy crisis, I really am a believer in photovoltaic energy now. Fossil fuel just seems so cruel. Let's progress to the future, already!
