When they were just 2 1/2 inches, they got used to being cuddled that way, and continue to demand it to this day. They will pace around the bed until I pick them up and hold them on me with the covers over our heads. I admit, it is getting to be a bit heavy to haul them up on the bed with us, but they are so irresistable when they want their affection.
In a few years, I guess this activity will happen on an aero bed or floor mattress. Already, it can only occurr when all involved are wearing thick turtlenecks (prevents any shell-scratching) and a special blanket and comforter that I sewed especially for this behavior. I mean, after all, they ARE my little babies. . . .
: OK Esther.....I want to hear how that's going in a couple of years from now, that is, their falling asleep on your chest. Geez...I thought I was bad with my laying on the lawn and letting them climb all over me and snuggling for cuddle time. LOL
: : Chanel slept anywhere when he was a baby. He would just stop and we would find him there, sprawled out. When he was very little he lived in a breeding tank, and had what we referred to as a lean-to. He would go under that, and soon we would hear the sound of substrate being dug in and tossed around. Later, when he refused to be in a cage, we let him walk around freely.
: : Initially we would take him to his pig blanket shelter, but then, one night while I was gone and my husband was playing on the computer, he decided he wanted some attention. He went up and sat by daddy's foot, but daddy was too engrossed in the game to notice him. He waited for a bit, and then slowly walked the distance to his shelter and went in. My husband said he felt terrible; it was like watching a little child sadly go to his room. Now Chanel and Angel "put themselves up" every night in any of the four shelters they have. They do not seem to mind that they differ, and they many times don't choose the closest one. For a while they would sleep in the same shelter, shell by shell, but now they genrally sleep in separate shelters due to Chanel's growing tendency to dominate. Even though they are over 12 pounds, they like to sleep in bed with me, sitting on my chest. They go to sleep quickly this way, and always have since they were tiny babies.
