: Hi Dawn....we have both boxies and two sulcatas,4 and 8 yrs old. The sulcatas are like puppy dogs....they'll "beg". They are eating machines. We haven't had to be concerned with feeding for over two years now. Ours are both grazers. My point is...they aren't like the boxies, they'll eat and eat and eat whatever you give them, as long as they like it. I'm sure someone will post with advice on how much to give.

: : Hi, I posted a few weeks back about the sulcata I rescued from terrible conditions. Here is a happy update. I lowered her temps in the enclosure. It is now 87 under the basking light and the low end is at 75. At night the temperature falls to 72. I discovered a little grocery store that sells dandilion leaves and cactus! She loves these! She now is a little eating machine! And I'm loving every minute of it. She is eating carrots, yellow squash, dandilion leaves, and cactus leaves (dethorned of course). Now, how often should I put vitamans on her food? Also, do I feed her everyday? My boxies only eat when they are hungry, will she be the same way? Right now I'm giving her about a hand full of food a day, and she eats it all by the end of the day. Remember she is only a tiny bit bigger than an adult box turtle. (about 5 1/2 inches long) Thank to all for your help. Dawn

Generally, with my 3 Sulcatas, I buy the powdered vitamins (Vitamite, Nature's gold, etc.) and just sprinkle a litle on their food. The vitamins generally don't effect on the flavor enough to make a difference in their eating. They ARE truly eating machines. Also, be sure to go to the bigger grocery stores in the area. Most produce departments will give away free pet scraps.
