Leopards Hatching

I have Leopard tortoise eggs hatching today. One tort. has egg shell stuck to his nose and mouth area. Should I spray water to loosen up or will the tortoise get it off on its own? It is not totally out of the shell yet. It is still sitting in 1/2 of the shell. Thanks for any advise. I am going to dig out Highfield's book and check there.
