: write me back i am interested in tortise

: : We were given a tortise that was supposed to be a desert tortise. This small creature has no resemblance to our full grown desert. It is about 5-6" (Shell) and has a hooked beak, mouth? It is living outside in our 110 degree heat and seems comfortable. Only problem is it will only eat live worms. Our other tortise lives on grass, flowers and occasional greens. Is there a good website with pictures of various breeds?

: Pete,

: where do you live?

: Could it be a box turtle?

: The very rare Terrapene coahuila or Coahuilan box turtle , has a very hooked upper jaw.

: This turtle is from Mexico, is rare and protected. I couldn't find a photo unfortunately, but it is around 6" in size, the carapace ( upper shell) is brownish/olive , the head greyish with maybe some dark mottling.

: I am going to see if I can find out more.

: Make sure you provide a * shallow* dish of water for drinking/soaking. One it can easily get in and out of, woth no difficulty.

: Terry.
